Jamendo – Free Music :)

Just a quick post. Thought I’d promote some free, legal, music… this post is due to the anger I have towards the new laws in the UK whereby an ISP can kick you off the internet if they suspect you of downloading copy-protected materials. I won’t get into the politics of it all, but simply put I’m going to start using sites such as this more and more. Also helps that ubuntu lets you steam their entire catalogue using Rhythmbox :).

I won’t get into the full ins and outs of the site, basically put anyone can put their original music on their servers for everyone to download – if people like the music, you can donate to the artist via the website.

Oh another note, I’m a full ubuntu convert (finally :D!). By full convert, I mean I use ubuntu every day… I only ever boot into windows when I absolutely have to for whatever reason (e.g. college related stuff, or playing games – but I don’t really play windows-based games much these days anymore).

Here’s a random playlist on Jamendo:

  1. Please note, if you click download on that embedded playlist you will be taken to the download page of the playlist (which I think is 107MB) and contains all the music it plays. You can download in either OGG or MP3 format – MP3 by default for downloads from the site itself, and OGG available if you use bittorrent to download the songs.

  2. It’s really stupid having ISPs kick you from their service but i can appriciate what this could do for sales of the artists that live off their music. Can’t download? have to purchaise
that being said i use last.fm a hell of alot >.<
